A BUS was severely damaged when it was engulfed in flames on a busy road in Bewdley.

Firefighters from Kidderminster and Stourport attended the blaze on the A456 Bewdley bypass near the Blackstone Picnic Area at around 5.35pm on Monday afternoon (June 15).

The blaze, on a Diamond bus, caused the road to be closed by police, while fire crews put out the flames and made the area safe.

A spokesman for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said: "The bus well alight on our arrival.

"We used two breathing apparatus and two hose reels to extinguish the fire,

"We had to close the road in both directions while we dealt with the incident.

"Around 50 per cent of the bus was destroyed by the fire."

No passengers were reported to be on the bus when the fire broke out and no injuries were reported.

West Mercia Police were at the scene to help direct the traffic while the road was closed briefly between 6pm and 6.20pm.
