CHILDREN can make their own shields and take part in foam sword fighting at a Viking themed family event in Dudley next week.
The event at Dudley Archives and Local History Centre is suitable for children aged five and over and takes place from 2pm to 4pm on on Saturday (June 4).
The Black Country based re-enactment organisation Jorvik Vikingr will host storytelling sessions and stage mock battles with Viking warriors.
Councillor Rachel Harris, cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: “The word Viking conjures up many images of marauding warriors but we hope that our event with storytelling and other activities will also show other aspects of life in the Viking community.”
There will also be activities for parents and carers, including a 20 minute film about Teddy Grays sweet shop, produced by the Black Country arts charity Multi Story.
Although the event is free, booking is advisable by calling 01384 812770.
