YOU just can’t stop The Beat.

The Birmingham based band became one of the most popular and influential acts of the British Two Tone Ska movement - along with the likes of The Specials, The Selecter and Madness - after they burst onto the music scene in 1979 at a time of social, political and musical upheaval.

They scored a series of UK chart hits with their soul, reggae, pop, punk tunes and toured the world with acts including David Bowie, The Police, REM, The Clash, The Talking Hands, The Pretenders and The Specials before calling it a day in 1983 after three studio albums.

Frontman Dave Wakeling later formed a new band General Public - while guitarist Andy Cox and bass player David Steele went off and formed the Fine Young Cannibals with Roland Gift.

But the band reunited for a UK tour in 2003 and since then singer and guitarist Dave has been keeping what is now known as The English Beat alive and well.

He continues to the tour the world with an all-star ska backing band and will be performing at The Robin 2 at Bilston, on Friday September 23.
