HAGLEY Community Association are putting on an 80s night to raise money for the proposed village hub project.

The ‘Back to the 80s’ event is set to take place on Saturday (October 1) at Hagley Community Centre and will include a quiz at 7.30pm followed by a disco at 9pm.

Money raised from the event will be donated towards the building of a new community hub which will see Hagley Parish Council, library services, West Mercia Police and community groups brought together under one roof.

Organisers Fran Evans and Rachel Jenkins hope that people will get into the spirit, dress up, let their hair down and have a great time.

The said: “We wanted to put on a really fun event for everyone to together before the Christmas frenzy.

“Every penny we raise for the community centre rebuild is valuable as it will mean that we stand more chance of attracting match funding and being able to turn the centre into an event better feature for Hagley which can accommodate the growing number of people and their needs.

“Whilst selling tickets we’ve been asked about the centre and why we need one.

“People don’t realise how old the current building is, and the many benefits a modern building with a centre manager could bring.

“We can’t rely on volunteers forever, especially when it’s important to accommodate so many different groups and needs of a growing village.

“It’s important to realise that a very small group of people currently manage the centre voluntarily and it’s used every day by a large number of groups but a larger footprint and centre manager could make it a lot more inclusive.

“Plans for the centre have been drawn up and are being further developed this week. To quote an eighties anthem – nothing's gonna stop us now.”

The winners of the ‘Hagley Big Draw’, which includes a big £2,000 holiday, as well as an iPad, Android tablet and other prizes donated by kind-hearted local businesses, will also be announced at the event.

Fran added: “A lot of effort has gone into making the Big Draw a successful fundraising venture, with lots of donations from local businesses who we’d like to thank.”
