SNOOKER legend Jimmy 'Whirlwind' White is to put in an appearance at The Britannia Sports Bar in Wollaston next week.

Landlord Wayne Etheridge told how he's been trying to get the star to give a talk at the pub for the last decade and he's finally agreed and is set to stop off at the pub on Monday August 9.

Jimmy, who shot to fame in the 1980s when the sport was in its highly televised heyday, is still an active player - having turned professional around 40 years ago - and in his twilight years of playing he's won three seniors world titles.

The most prestigious World Snooker Championships title unfortunately eluded him, but White - who lost out on the championship title to Stephen Hendry in the 1994 final - was a household name along with the likes of Steve Davis, Dennis Taylor, the late Alex 'Hurricane' Higgins and other top players in the 80s.

Wayne said: "I've been trying to get him here for 10 years and for whatever reason he declined but I spoke to him in lockdown and he was more than willing to do a night for me.

"We're delighted to be putting on an evening with the fans' favourite and people's champion Jimmy White.

"It's almost sold out but we've still got a few tickets left."

Th snooker star, nicknamed the 'Whirlwind' because of the speed at which he could win a game, will be dining with a small number of gold ticketholders before meeting and greeting fans and giving a talk on the highs and lows of his long career before taking questions from the audience.
