SUPER-FIT Steve Gould doesn't do things by halves.

The former top class middle-distance club athlete turned cyclist decided to celebrate his 60th birthday with a difference.

Instead of putting his feet up, the recently retired Stourbndge postman presented himself with a staggering challenge.

He set about cycling 60 miles for 60  consecutive days.

In total, Steve clocked up 3,936 miles, which is equivalent to cycling from Land's End to John O' Groats four times over.

He said: "I'd been thinking of doing something like this for the past few years. I like a challenge and the number 60 kept coming to mind. I wanted to do something special."

However, Steve didn't legislate for the bad weather and recalled: "The weather wasn't the greatest throughout the challenge.

"Of the 60 days cycling, I finished up doing 34 of them on my own. Those days seemed to coincide with the worst of the weather when no-one really wants to volunteer to go out with you."

Steve combined his challenge by raising funds for Parkinson's UK as a tribute to one of his former colleagues at Royal Mail in Stourbridge where Steve worked as a postman for 39 years.

He added: "It hit me around day 40, which was a particularly bad day. I was wet and cold - but it made me realise, that when I got home, I could shower and change and then I'd be alright again.

"But for those living with Parkinson's, it's still there, everyday."

Steve is now trying to raise as much money as possible for Parkinson's.

He's already passed the £3,200 mark but is  desperate to beat the £3,600 barrier to continue his 60 theme.
