THE digital reproduction of the first issue of the Stourbridge News has been made possible thanks to the late Audrey Mildner.

Her son, Chris Armfield, found the paper among her belongings after she passed away in 2006, aged 81.

Mrs Mildner (pictured), who lived in Greenfield Avenue, Stourbridge, was a great collector of pieces of local history and lived in the town all her life.

She happened to keep the first issue of the Stourbridge News, especially as she was the first ever person to “Find Fred”, a competition the paper ran in its early days.

She was so proud of the area that she kept many news items and although now forgotten, she started the campaign to commemorate Lye Cross’ most famous son, the stage and film actor Sir Cedric Hardwick.

Chris said his mum was the inspiration to him about the values of our local history and community affairs.
