In June 1992 the Danes rejected the Maastricht Treaty; the EU President responded with Shakespeare by saying “There is something rotten in the state of Denmark” and ignored the vote.

In June 2001 the Irish rejected the Nice Treaty; the EU assumed the Irish “did not understand”, ignored the vote and told them to do it again, this time voting ‘the correct way’ warning of major “consequences”. The Dutch too were in the mood to reject the Treaty, but the EU refused them a referendum. We saw it most recently a few days ago when 61.1 per cent of the electorate in the Netherlands voted against the EU over the Ukraine question and the EU (again) ignored the vote.

We have seen democracy overturned in many parts of the EU, not least in Greece and Italy where elected government officials not suitable to the EU were replaced by unelected ones who were. Now there are calls to make the lack of democracy in the EU ‘official’.

German Green MEP Rebecca Harms has called for an end to referenda across the EU because “democracy threatens the EU. It is unacceptable for a mob (sic) of people to be able to reject an agreement that was supported by governments of member states and their parliaments”.

(source: Breibart.com) By voting “remain” you will (effectively) be agreeing to remove all democracy from the UK.
