PORTWAY Shukokai Karate Club recently came top at the SKF National Karate championships with a massive haul of medals.

They came home with 11 gold, six silver and three bronze medals.

Audun Daniels struck gold in the Mens Kumite fighting event beating fellow team mate Peter Jelf who took silver in a great and explosive final.

Jenny Loftus continued her dominance to retain her Ladies Senior Kumite title with a fine display. Peter Jelf and Jenny Loftus locked horns in the Adult Black belt Kata (forms) Final with Peter edging out Jenny with an excellent and controlled display to take the gold.

Lauren Reid struck gold in the Cadet 9-11years Senior Kata, and also bronze in the Kumite 9-11years heavyweight section. Brother Liam Reid was on fine form to win gold in the 12-14years heavyweight Kumite event.

Brandon Taylor was outstanding and excelled from previous events to take the gold in the 12-14years lightweight event. Sister Jordan Taylor narrowly missed out on gold to take the silver in the Cadet 9-11years lightweight Kumite.

Mia Daniels took silver in the girls 12-15years Kumite event, and also took bronze in the Cadet 12-15years Senior Kata event. David Maynard lost a close contested final to take the silver in the Male Veterans Senior 35yrs + Kumite event.

In the team events, Audun Daniels, Peter Jelf and Jenny Loftus struck gold beating fellow team mates David Maynard, Robert Loftus and Josie Farrow (silver) in the adult team Kumite event. Peter, Jenny and Robert also teamed up to take gold the adult team Kata event.

The junior teams also excelled with Mia Daniels, Brandon Taylor and Liam Reid joining forces to take the gold in the Junior 12-15years team Kumite. Jordan Taylor, Liam Reid and Luqmaan Ibn-Saaddiq took the gold in the Cadet 9-11years team Kumite event.

Mia Daniels and Brandon Taylor took gold in the Cadet 10-14years Senior Team Kata event, with Jordan Taylor and Lauren Reid taking the bronze in the same event.

An added bonus was Peter Jelf taking the best competitor of the day (Adult) and Jordan Taylor and Brandon Taylor both sharing the best (cadet) competitors of the day.

Some athletes are now in full preparations for the KSI World Championships to be held in Sun City, South Africa, in July.
