GLASSBOYS boss Gary Hackett says he is targeting three to four new signings at Amblecote this summer.

The manager wants to strengthen in all areas of the pitch as he looks to turn his side into title challengers next term.

Stourbridge narrowly missed out on a play-off place last season following a final-day defeat against Salford City at the War Memorial Ground.

Preparations are now well under way to improve the squad as well as getting a host of last season’s players to commit to the club.

Hackett said: “We did really well last season but I think the squad does need freshening up a little. I want to bring in three or four new faces. We can’t rest on our laurels.

“The aim is to improve all areas but we won’t rush into getting people in.

"But will be patient because we want to make sure we bring in the right players.”

Winger Chris Lait and goalkeeper Matt Gould have already boosted the squad by signing contracts with the Glassboys through to the end of the 2016/17 season.

Lait, who joined Stourbridge from Rushall Olympic towards the end of the 2014/15 campaign, was the Glassboys’ joint second highest scorer last season with 16 goals, including stunning strikes in the FA Cup wins against Kidderminster Harriers and Dover Athletic.

He continually impressed with his driving runs from the left flank.

Gould signed for Stourbridge on-loan from Scottish Championship side Livingston in January this year, and proved to be a solid presence behind the back four.

Both men were vital last term and their presence adds to that of defender Dan Scarr who is already under contract at the War Memorial Ground as Hackett begins to build squad for next season.

Skipper Stuart Pierpoint and fellow defenders Kristian Green and Junior Smikle are also close to agreeing terms for another year.

Meanwhile, long-serving midfielder Leon Broadhurst took the honours at last Friday night’s club presentation evening with three awards.

Broadhurst received Hackett’s player of the year gong and also picked up his team-mates’ nomination as their player of the year.

And there was a third award for the man who reached his milestone 600th appearance in Stourbridge colours back in February, in the shape of the supporters’ man of the match award.

The supporters’ player of the year award went to Junior Smikle, whilst the board of directors and committee opted for impressive skipper Pierpoint.

Talking over Broadhurst’s hat-trick of awards, Hackett added: “He has been a fantastic servant to the club and has had to adapt his game over the years. He is an amazingly fit guy with an infectious attitude. “His glass is always half full and he has been a please to work with.”
