FORMER Old Swinford Hospital pupil Huw Taylor played a leading part as England Under-20s beat South Africa 39-17 to reach the Rugby World Cup final this week.

A contingent from OSH travelled up to Manchester’s AJ Bell Stadium on Monday where they saw flanker Taylor thunder over for a first-half try as England romped to victory.

England will now face Ireland in the final this Saturday at Manchester, which kicks off at 7pm.

They had reached the semi-finals against South Africa after also completing a fine 17-13 victory against Australia.

Andrew Coalter, OSH director of sport, said: “We were all extremely proud to see an Old Foleyan score a try in the first half.

“After the match we had an opportunity to catch up with Huw and reminisce about his time at OSH.

“In my opinion he is a world-class player and I look forward to seeing him continue his success with England and Worcester Warriors.”

Taylor, who hails from Claverley followed his elder brother Ed to OSH in 2007 where both went onto captain the school First XV.

He was also part of the Old Swinford side who reached the Daily Mail Cup final which played against Dulwich at Twickenham.

The Bridgnorth-born player took A levels in psychology, maths and sport, having previously attended Claverley Primary School and signed a contract with the Warriors for 2014-15 after completing his studies.

His previous club from 2003-2009 was Bridgnorth.
