STOURBRIDGE are still searching for a new under-18 youth team assistant manager after popular former defender Nathan Bennett decided he couldn’t take the role.

The Glass boys had announced that Bennett would be taking up the position last week.

However, he has since reconsidered due to difficulties travelling from his home in Stratford.

Stourbridge vice-chairman Andy Bullingham explained: “Nathan did originally accept the role but then decided he couldn’t fully commit to the travelling after he’d sat down and gave it some thought.

“We understand his decision and are still very keen to get him involved with the club again.

“We will be trying to find him a role here and he is still very keen to be involved with the club.”

Bennett was a popular figure at the heart of the Glassboys’ defence between 2005 and 2014, chalking up 413 appearances and scoring 64 goals for the club after arriving from Cradley Town.

He played a major role in the club’s two promotions and three highly memorable FA Cup runs during this time.

Meanwhile, Andy Fisher has been appointed as the new manager of Stourbridge Ladies.

Fisher, 29, takes over from Keith Merrick, who has stepped down after leading the Glassgirls to a third successive promotion, as well as victory last month in the BCWL Open Cup final.

The new boss enjoyed success of his own last season when he led Kewford Eagles Ladies to the BCWL Division One title with just one defeat in their 16 matches last term.
