HALESOWEN Cycling Academy earned their biggest result of the season with an outstanding team performance in the 65-mile Climb On Bikes road race on a rolling course near Leominster.

Jack Stanton-Warren and Tom Swingler finished first and second, with Charles Walker taking fourth to cap a fine day for the team.

With third place going to former Halesowen rider Callum Ferguson, on a brief break from racing in Italy, this was a picture of complete dominance for the West Midlands club, which strengthens their challenge in the West Midlands Road Race League.

The one-two capped a team performance of strength in depth, with Joe Hobbs figuring in an early move and Patrick Fotheringham driving the peloton hard before Swingler and Stanton-Warren made their move when the racing intensified on the third of four 17-mile laps.

It was Ludlow racer Stanton-Warren who sprang away first with about 10 miles remaining, joined by Swingler, with Walker closing down any attempts from within the peloton to mount a chase.

By the time the race reached the finish near the village of Weobley, the Halesowen duo had a minute’s lead, with Swingler conceding victory to Stanton-Warren on the line while Ferguson narrowly outsprinted Walker for third place.

Earlier in the week, Walker maintained his lead in the Stourport Tuesday Evening League with third place in the second and third-category event, while Oli Dighton finished third in the third-cat race and Forrest Lambert-Humphries fifth.

This week sees the penultimate round of the West Mids Road Race League with the Stourbridge two-day stage race, consisting of a time trial and circuit race on Saturday, and a 70-mile road race on Sunday.

Halesowen are all set to field a near full-strength team led by Walker and Stanton-Warren.
